||||
| Q: | How do I get started with Lost Compensation on a case? [top] | |||
| A: | Either give us a call or an email. We would like to have a brief conversation with you on your case, to make sure we are a good fit for your needs. | |||
| Q: | What is your fee schedule? [top] | |||
| A: | Our fees are described in our Terms & Conditions. We offer flat-rate pricing on our reports. Testimony is billed hourly. | |||
| Q: | What forms of payment do you accept?[top] | |||
| A: | We accept Visa, MasterCard, money order, or business check. Use our online payment processing system to securely pay with a credit card, to receive your report most promptly. For more detail, please refer to our Terms & Conditions. | |||
| Q: | What is your refund policy? [top] | |||
| A: | We do not offer refunds once we have been retained. | |||
| Q: | How do I retain one of your economists? [top] | |||
| A: | We will first have a discussion to determine if we can assist you in your case. If that answer is yes (usually is), we will send you a C.V. of one of our economists, chosen from our network, along with an engagement agreement and copy of the Terms & Conditions. You then sign and date that letter and return it to us, and pay our retainer fee. Once all this is complete, you may designate our economist as an economic expert in your case. | |||
| Q: | Can I request a specific economist from your network? [top] | |||
| A: | Naturally, this is your prerogative. However, we cannot guarantee that your preferred expert is available, based upon current work load, and doing so may unnecessarily expose you to travel costs. The beauty of Lost Compensation is in our network: we are building a team of skilled forensic economists from across the nation, and we work hard to make sure that we bring you only the best and brightest experts whom you would feel comfortable putting in front of a jury. So, we hope you would consider using an economist which we recommend. | |||
| Q: | What if the economist I request is not available? [top] | |||
| A: | We hope you would choose to work with another economist from our network. Failing that, please keep us in mind for the future. | |||
| Q: | What about travel costs? [top] | |||
| A: | Should the economic expert need to travel to provide testimony, we bill you for reasonable and customary travel costs, in keeping with industry norms. We always try to make economical arrangements. | |||
| Q: | Can your economists be deposed via video? [top] | |||
| A: | Absolutely. We have done this before. Frankly, in this day and age of technology, there is no reason to travel to and fro for depositions. Lost Compensation embraces advancements in technology, and passes savings along to you. Or, if you want to have the deposition live and in person, we are happy to accommodate this request. |

| Q: | Why should I choose to work with Lost Compensation, instead of a local expert? [top] | |||
| A: | Lost Compensation manages a nationwide network of experts, so we may very well have a “local” expert for you. Assuming we do not, one of the advantages of working with Lost Compensation is the consistency of report quality. Having a network of economic experts at your disposal does not make for the appearance of your having a “hired gun”, which as you know, can be viewed by juries as less credible. | Q: | I really prefer to work with someone in my state. Could you quickly add an expert to your network from my state? [top] | |||
| A: | We are not comfortable recommending this to our clients, because discovering if an expert is an appropriate fit for our network is a delicate and somewhat time-consuming process. We would rather recommend an expert we know to you, rather than an expert with whom we have no experience. We hope you will consider working with us in spite of this, and if not, we understand, and hope that you would check in with us in the future, to see if we have added an expert in your state. | |||
| Q: | What is included in an economic damages report? [top] | |||
| A: | The easy-to-read report includes a description of the valuation methodology employed by the economist, his/her assumptions, convenient tables summarizing economic losses, and a complete listing of the documents upon which the economist relied in formulating his/her opinion. | |||
| Q: | What does it mean for an expert economic damages report to be “Daubert quality.”[top] | |||
| A: | No sensible expert would ever guarantee that his report would survive a Daubert challenge, and we offer no such guarantee. That said, a reasonable and prudent expert will take the necessary steps to increase the likelihood that their testimony will survive a Daubert challenge. In fact, the Courts are clear on what constitutes a Daubert quality economic expert report. These factors are (1) the qualifications of the expert, (2) the analytical methodologies employed, and (3) the relevance of the expert’s testimony. Lost Compensation only recruits university-employed professors (any rank), lecturers, and instructors who hold a PhD in one of economics, finance, or accounting. Our in-house economic analysts and network economists work together to check and double-check that the methodologies employed are widely accepted. | |||
| Q: | What happens if I submit my inquiry to you on a holiday or weekend?[top] | |||
| A: | We will contact you on the first business day thereafter. | |||
| Q: | What is the National Economist Network?[top] | |||
| A: | It is a nationwide network of economic experts managed by Lost Compensation and headquartered in Austin, TX. | |||
| Q: | How quickly can I expect my economic damages report? [top] | |||
| A: | Once we have been retained (signed agreement and retainer fee received) and all the case documentation is received, most reports are completed within 5 days. | |||
| Q: | Can I have a list of your clients? [top] | |||
| A: | We respect our clients privacy, therefore we cannot provide you with this information. You can be certain that your privacy will be treated with the same respect. | |||

| A: | It is (techno-speak for) a simple way to create your own custom newspaper. Using an RSS feed is really simple, even for the most techno-challenged among us. If you know how to use a web browser, you can use RSS feeds. You start by signing up with a free RSS feed reader: My Yahoo! and Bloglines seems to be favorites, others are out there. Then search for blogs that are of interest to you, and click a button that will say something like, “Subscribe to this blog.” That button is what sends the RSS Feed to your feed reader. Subscribe to enough feeds, and you have created your own personal newspaper consisting of information that is relevant to YOU. | |||
